Hey Guys,

I currently have a 1.4 MG ZR which is a great laugh to drive, nippy, cheap to insure.. but, over the past few months has cost me a fortune since the head gasket went.. along with a number of other things! Have had alot of work done on it and am toying with the idea of selling it. I am 19years old so can't afford anything overly quick but thought that a Zetec S may be a good way to go. However,I don't know much about them in terms of running costs and what they're like to drive and can't seem to find many reviews online. Could anyone give me some info??

The shape I'm looking for is the Mk6/6.5.

Any help would be great!

Cheers

Gareth

If you have had the work done and enjoy the car, there is an argument you should keep it and get your money's worth.

Always worth a test drive if you are seriously considering a different car.

Doubt I could get the insurance on an ST with only 3years no claims! I'm still not sure whether or not to sell the MG, but if I do, I think a Zetec S may be on the cards...

I have a TDCi Zetec S as my commuter car. Does about 25k miles a year, mostly motorways, at 60-70mpg.

It is much better than I expected it to be, I bought it because it has really good seats and I needed something more economical than a 3.0 Audi.

It's actually quite fun to drive, bit like a go-kart.

If you want to press on and can keep the turbo on boost it goes quite well.

I have it serviced at the Ford main dealer and it isn't too bad. I think generally between £180 and £300 depending on service.

Oh and it only costs £30 for RFL, but I suspect the petrol one would be a bit more if that is what you are considering.

Ours is the same really. Been in the family since 2007 when I passed my test. 4yrs and roughly 60k miles later, no major problems with it, only service items to replace, the odd wheel bearing etc.

Also the diesel version, good car.

OP maybe consider keeping your car until you are 21? You have spent money on it so those things shouldn't break again, and insurance comes down/becomes obtainable on a larger selection of cars at 21. I put the deposit down on my mk1 FRS on my 21st birthday! wink

Edit: just seen you are 19 and it's someone else who is 20, 2 years is a long time to wait, see what your insurance quotes come out like on a ZS!

I had 2yrs ncb at 20 and the insurance was about £1300, pretty reasonable tbh!

Id say test drive both and see which you prefer wink

I got a quote on an ST, was only £200 more than the ZS to insure, but the fuel consumption looks like it's a hell of alot less based on some people I know who have one! Have found a friend that has the petrol ZS and is going to let me go for a test drive in it, so fingers crossed!! Does anybody know if you can get the Sony stereo from the Focus in the fiesta?

I had the ST and got 34mpg generally
A mate had the ZS diesel and got 50-60mpg
Think the lowest he ever got it was into the high 40s
But driven sensibly could hit over 70mpg

Wasn't quick off the line but at the time it was nippy enough and handled quite well
Get one in panther black then the plastic bumper strips are hardly noticeable
They also remap quite well I do believe

Good fun aren't they! Mine hasn't broken down yet (fingers crossed it stays that way) but I hear you on the fuel! I haven't worked out how many mpg I average but I doubt it is a big number!
