Hi Chaps, has anyone had any problems with the egr valve on the 2.2 mondeo engine? if so what was the solution? The reason I ask is my brother has an 07 Transit with the same engine and has been told that this needs replacing at around £500:00,it sounds as though its running on after the ignition is switched off a kind of sawing noise for 2-3 seconds,I am sure I read somewhere that these can be blanked off.Thanks.

I have the same engine in my Mondeo. It's a Euro 4 engine (there is an electrical connector on the valve). I believe that they can be blanked off but you will still get the warning light on the dash.

I have just given mine a clean (it wasn't very dirty though). I'd say try this with a couple of cans of carb cleaner (it is a messy job) before going down the route of a new valve. Maybe also disconnect the battery for an hour or so to reset the ECU (as long as you have the radio code)

Also, new valves are in the region of £200 and are a doddle to fit yourself.

Three of our works vans have the chirpy noise after you switch off and is the EGR. We have had them cleaned and has been succesful for a while. Luckily they are getting chopped in along with another half dozen in the next month, so the guys are living with them for now. The most problematic part of our transit fleet has been the crappy egr's. Although we have a few getting shakey with DMF failure looming too.
