We have an 04 Focus that arrived with only one key, so got hold of a second hand fob off fleabay and duly linked it to the car. It now quite happily locks and unlocks the doors. However I have now searched in vain for someone to cut the blade - its a Ford round type one, and keep getting all sorts of excuses: just got rid of machine, against company policy etc etc. What's going on? Is it a conspiracy to force us to Ford and the extortionate maoney they want for a spare key? One chain quoted me £50 for a cut that would only let me in the car!

I'm looking for someone to cut the blade in Windsor / Slough area of Berkshire, any ideas?

Although you've linked the fob to the central locking, you'll still need to set up the link between the key and the immobiliser (sp?), which I believe on Ford can do. Happy to be proved wrong though!

You are right, the fob opens the door but will not start the car with the existing blade. Must have had the two (existing and new) together when I tried it last time.

So getting a key cut means you can get in the car if it has a dead battery and you've left your other keys in there, a peculiar set of circumstances to find yourself in, and one that I'll take a risk on!

If its the old style Ford key with the round shaft and like triangle bits at the end. I got one cut in Bourne End, just outside Cookham/Maidenhead.

There are two shops on the parade, on called Village Hardware, they don't do it, but theres a key cutting shop on the corner who do. Was something like sub10 to do it about a year or to ago.

But as posted above, it won't start the immobiliser without a second key or going to Ford to get them to recognise it.

Not much help in this case but if you already have two Focus keys matched to the car (e.g. one 'plipper' and one not) there is a procedure in the handbook* for matching extra keys without having to resort to The Sign of the Blue Oval.

Could be worth shelling out for the one then doing any further ones yourself.
