MK2 focus whistle - EGR

Our car whistles, when at idle revs. Our mechanic took of the EGR value & the whistle stopped. So we replaced it with a new valve and the whistle came back. From memory, there were a pair of tubes that run from the valve into the engine bay.. wondering if whatever is a the end of these is the issue.
Any thoughts?
