2003 Focus TDCi - Noisy hot start

My 2003 Focus TDCi has developed a loud clunking/rattle on hot starting.

Ignore the wind noise etc, it's the loud noise at about 8 seconds as the engine turns over before it catches.

Anyone had this before. Is it the dreaded DMF failure?

On cold starts the noise isn't present.

Is there any engine vibrations, especially when you rev about 1250rpm?

It's likely the flywheel is starting to fail, but some improve with a replacement starter motor (not 100%, but markedly better)

No other symptoms at all. Just that noise when starting from hot.
