Ok, So I've decided to get a Series 2 RS Turbo as a long term project car and something fun for those lovely summer days.

I'm sure i've come to the right place for all the inside information and things to look out for when i start viewing these great cars.

Could you be so kind as to give me your knowledge on common faults, rust spots and general signs that i need to look out for.

I know that the boot floor, and battery shelf are prone to rust, so these are on my list. General wear and tear to the supports on the seats looks very common too, but you'd expect this for a 20 year old car.

I'm focusing on trying to get a G or H reg, 90 Spec model. Ideally in Mercury Grey.

My main want is for the car to be nearly totally standard. The more standard the better for me, as this gives me more peace of mind that it hasn't had as hard a life as a tuned / modified example.

Plus, i'm thinking longer term that this will be more sought after should / when i come to sell her on.

Does anyone know of any that are for sale, or being considered for sale that aren't currently on Pistonheads / ebay. I've looked at them all and a couple have stood out.

I'm planning on starting to view next month, so anyone with one thaty're looking to sell, please contact me.

I look forward to hearing from all on your advice / knowledge!

Thanks in advance

Ross

I bought one a couple of months ago. Rushed into buying it, trusted a mate of a mate etc.

Headgasket went two days after buing it (first time I drove it) and on starting work on the engine, i noticed a whole host of st with the loom/connectors.

my advice.... take someone who knows about these with you.

passion ford forums always have good examples for sale, being enthusiasts you can see they would look after em (or follow there threads and see if they do)

Generally most of them will by now be resprayed so if your looking for one, look out for shoddy paint work as a newly resprayed panel wont look out of place in the sun but in a bit of shade shows up like a sore thumb.

Rust is the biggest issue especially in the roof ( just behind sunroof normally first place to go) in the sills hidden by the skirts arches also hidden by the body kit mechanically they are actually a very simple car so easy to work on as long as you avoid the Internet "experts" that are full of st

The injection system is extremely sensitive to air leaks so any rough running is normally down to this & although wiring can give up causing some odd problems the fan switch plug melts which can cause overheating so this is worth checking in particular

At stock power they are over engineered so very strong with a chip (needs to be soldered into the ecu) actuator & a decent cam exhaust & filter they can make a reliable 200bhp which makes for a quick car even by today's standards my last one was running high 200's with a 2.1 engine but the bonnet was always up for one reason or another.

Wow, this has just made me feel old(er).

When i was about 17 or 18 a kid i knew got a load of money for something and this was his car of choice. 17 years old, went and bought a white one brand new from ford and drove it constantly. He let everyone who wanted to, have a drive of it as well and bearing in mind the sort of crap we all drove at that age it felt like a spaceship by comparison. Wonder how dated one would feel by now?

He wrapped it round a tree in the end, walked from the crash and went straight out and bought another one.

Bought one yesterday!!! Got an absolutely great example from a guy on Passionford.

Red, H Reg, full underside had been re-done and most of the car re-sprayed.

Great car, but it had been lowered and had a 4" exhaust put on it. Sits great, but too many speed bumps around where I live, so I now need peoples help!! I need to get some new springs. Its been lowered 40mm. ANd has Gmax shocks on. I have the original shocks from the sell, but need springs. Ideally i'd like to lift it back to its true height, Its such a clean example, i'd like to have everything standard.

Any suggestions on springs, and where i could possible get originals?

The exhause is also a little too big for my taste and too loud. Anyone have any ideas where I can get an original Ford Exhaust? Or if not original, anyone know of companies offering near exact replicas?

I look forward to your help and advice.

Thanks a lot!

Not my photos, but these are of the car when it was sold to the guy i bought it off of.

It also has the photo's of the underside restoration work that was carried out.

http://passionford.com/forum/cars-for-sale/365732-...

I need to change the back box as it has a 4" Scorpian, which i've arranged to swap for a 2.5" Magnex back box.

Also been lowered 40mm, so got a set of original shocks and springs on route to get it as standard, i'll then look at maybe dropping 20mm on springs, depending on how it sits.

Look forward to your comments! Go easy on me!
