Hello,

I am interested in a 3Dr Cosworth that has been reshelled. Advert here. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Sierra-Rs-Cosworth-...

I am close to securing a deal. Please can anyone advise the true value of this car.

Its worth what you or anyone else wants to pay,as with all cars.

It was on here for £7500 which is cheap compared to genuine shelled cossie's as they seem to be around 10k upwards.

However it is a non genuine shell cosworth so it should be cheaper,in my eyes.

Would 8500 be a million miles away?

Well if it was on here for £7500 why pay £1000 more?

If it was me personally, than yes its to much at £8500 as its to close to genuine shell cars.

However i do not know how to value the car with its modifications etc, which do not appeal to me as i would prefer a genuine standard one.

It's a 3dr replica with a YB.No matter how many times they tell you it was built using the original Cosworth running gear it's still a replica.

Not worth £8500 IMO as nice as it is.

Why wouldn't you change the V5 to reflect what it now is?

Unless the previous owner has been insuring it as a 2.0L...

Because it might then need an IVA?

Why would anyone buy a bitsa car that isn't what it says it is, built by a bloke you never met, with possibly no real skills, using parts of questionable source and integrity?

Turn Ebay off and step away from the keyboard.

I suggest you ask on Passionford as they'll have a better idea and the previous owner/ friends of will probably be on there!
Probably won't help, they're mostly illiterate buffoons over there. Which probably says a lot about the provenance of the car in question.

As far as i know you can not.
The cars id is what it started out life as from the factory ie is that of a standard 2 litre gl etc.
The fact it has a cossie lump in it now makes no differance.

The owner would be quite within his rights to insure it as a 2.0 as that's what it is.He would also have to declare the modifications though to be legally insured.

You can't change a V5 anyway, they could have used the original Cosworth id and do what is known as ringing the car but that's also illegal.

If i was buying it i would rather have the base logbook with the Cosworth running gear rather than a ringer.

Shell is worth nothing IMO.

I would base what i offered him for it on what it would break for, I.E engine, box, unning gear, wheels etc etc

Because worst case scenario for you if you buy it and cannot sell it when you ve done with it is to break it for bits.

My 2p worth

Thanks everyone, as it turns out, I have secured a pukka 3dr in better condition and similar spec for a 1000 gold nuggets extra. Very pleased.

Its in black which is my favourite colour also. Win win.

I ran that mile. I take delivery of my mint D plate genuine cosworth with 78k with full service history and a wad of receipts. Can't wait.

Just got insured for £230 fully comp. 3000 miles cap. Happy with that too. 31 years, engineer, with a decent postcode. No points etc.
