Hi All

I've been asked by my grandparents to try and get an approximate value of an elderly relative's car, as he's about due to give up driving.

It's a 1983 1.6 Escort GL 4dr, black, 20k on the clock, 1 owner, garaged from new and supposedly in immaculate condition inside and out although i've not seen it myself.

I'm just trying to get them a ball park figure as people keep 'offering' to take it off his hands for £500.

Whilst not necessarily the most desirable Escort out there, something in that condition has got to be worth a bit more than £500, no?

Stick it on ebay and see what it makes. As you say it's not the most sought after of models. If it isn't costing anything why not maybe try to keep it yourself?

There will always be people offering to take it cheap,if it's in as good a condition as you say then although it's only a GL there will be valuable parts on it.

The old Ford market is a bit strange sometimes too though,i've seen belters of cars not make an awful lot of money and then some old rot boxes going for way more than they really should.

I'm waffling on now and probably been of no help whatsoever hehe

Are you sure it's actually 20k, not 120k miles? - these things only have 5 digit odometers.

Even so, it's not worth an awful lot more than 500 quid, I wouldn't have thought.

The thought of keeping it for myself has crossed my mind, but i don't expect to be given it for nothing. I do like the idea of keeping it garaged and just wheel it out on sunny days for the odd trip to keep it going.

It would add a nice contrast to most of the PH Sunday Service attendees.

It's a genuine 20k, the owner lives in London and has pretty much only used the car to go to Waitrose once a week because that's the only place he goes that has parking.

You could try the Ford owners club.

To the right person it may be worth a bit, but you'd have to be patient.

Maybe rent it out as a period car for an 80s TV drama...
