Fiesta zetec S current model
Discussion
Ive gone from the previous version to the new version. The new one has far better ride, is more comfortable and achives roughly 40mpg with day to day driving. The radio is better and some have a USB interface/bluetooh and voice controls ect. Got to say im pretty impressed with it. No squeaks or rattles either. However I just wish it had a bit more power, it never feels quite as eager as my old one despite being a lighter car with more power.
Quite interested in driving a new ST when they come out and see if the package is more rounded.

Thanks mate, that's the sort of info i'm after. Decent ride/handling is very important. Re: the power do you find it struggles in day to day driving or just that it would be nice if it was quicker? I know I need to drive one really but just curious. Tyre shredding 0-60 is all well and good but i'm looking at a daily driver/commuter that's also fun on the B roads. As long as it's nippy and keeps up with traffic ok it might do me fine.
My wife had one when they first came out. It was a lovely car, it handled well and was great fun to drive. We never managed anywhere near the official mpg although I suspect this was due to the gearing - 80 mph in 5th gear it was pulling lots of revs, it really could do with a 6th gear. It was very reliable, the only minor fault in 2 years was a faulty alarm bonnet sensor. We replaced it with a Citroen DS3 just for a change, although I suspect we will change back to an ST when it is launched.
Mountune offer a couple of packages - http://www.mountune.com/index.php/services/perform...
I've got one. Terrific on B-roads. You can really thrash it without losing your licence and the chassis and steering are, in my opinion, beautifully balanced. At 5am when I'm half asleep on the motorway and pottering along at 60mph listening to Radio 4 I'm getting 50mpg - that's measured at the pump and not on the optimistic trip computer.
Being honest the only downside is that if you're used to blasting along the motorway at 90mph you'll miss not having a 6th gear. Gearing in 5th is actually longer than 6th in my old CTR, but in a world filled with torquey diesels and turbos you might find it a little tiring as you approach licence-losing speeds.

Thanks sonic really useful comments. I was following one at traffic lights recently and it did zip along nicely I thought. I know it's not the most powerful engine out there but it's a light car and as you say combine that with nice ride/handling/steering it may be just what I'm after. Decent mpg is a bonus too!
I've also got one, great little car. It handles well, quite grippy and not too bad economy. Build quality is quite good, although mine had to go back under warranty as the boot catch kept unlatching randomly, and the other day I noticed the side indicator was full of moisture. If you have an iPhone getting bluetooth is worthwhile as it will stream music from it wirelessly, which is handy.
Just noticed the facelift fiesta will get the 1.0 ecoboost engine with 125ps (and 145lbft overboosted torque!). Seem's like the n/a 1.6 petrol will be replaced then. I'd like to see what the facelift zetec S petrol look's and drives like, but I still think a nearly new 1.6 zetec S would be a great car for me. One question, is the ride good on our hopeless roads in the current zetec S? I drove a zetec 1.4 and the ride was brilliant, but obviously the 1.6S has stiffer suspension and low profile tyres.
Mine rides on 17s with 205/45 tyres and the ride is properly good. I came from a Civic with 225/40/18s and I couldn't believe the difference. It's not like a big Jag which is like floating on air, but it absorbs the worst of most bumps while still remaining composed. It really is a great car.
Just to give some perspective and to prove I'm not one of those idiots who won't have a bad word said against his car. The brakes are adequate, but no more. I probably notice it more than most people because I come from a background of TVRs, Imprezas and Type Rs, all of which had huge discs. I've had mine 18months now and if I keep it beyond the end of next year I'll be heading to Mountune to get their big disc conversion and probably the 155ps upgrade. The chassis does deserve more.
In some ways it is quite frustrating that engines are evolving the way they are. I'm sure that new 1.0 turbo is super efficient, but I just can't get excited about it.
