Hi,

I’ve got a 2003 Mk3 V6 Mondy with around 170k on it

In the last couple of weeks it’s developed a rumbling, which (I think) is from the front-end/drive train, which I can’t identify. Need some guidance of possible suspects

Symptoms

<5 minutes into a journey, the rumble is clearly noticeable.

Increases at speed

No change when rolling in neutral

No change under braking, but slight judder through the steering wheel

No notchy feeling when rotating all hubs (wheels off)

(Relevant) Maintenance history

Discs all round changed in last 12 months (20k on front, 2k on rears)

Front bearings (non OEM) changed 10k miles ago

Rear bearings (non OEM) changed 30k miles ago

Tyres (FK452s) appear OK all around (I don't think it's these)

Any ideas, tips, guidance. Happy to pay a guy to fix the problems, but don’t want to piss away
money whilst he chases the root cause

??

TIA

Sounds like a bearing as the front ones are new check the driveshaft support bearing on the offside it bolts to the back of the block & they do get noisy at high

Almost certainly the drive shaft bearing. Mine went at 70k, sounded like driving an old WWII truck. Only discovered that after replacing both front wheel bearings, and the noise remaining.
