Focus 2005 clutch
Discussion
'Er indoors has seen off the clutch on her 1.6 2005 focus Mk2. Spoke first to a Ford dealer who quoted £850
Independent has quoted £480. Is that a reasonable (probably the wrong word) price. It's been twenty years since I needed to put a clutch in a car and these prices have come as something of a surprise. The independent stated he used 'LUK' clutches as they are a quality manufacturer. I don't want it fitted with a crap replacement, but don't want to get ripped off either.

I fitted a new clutch to my 1.6 back in June. The LUK clutch is the OEM unit, so the same as the one when the car was new. It was £185 I believe for a new clutch disc, pressure plate and slave cylinder (the latter a must!). Plus 2 ish liters of gearbox oil, and a few quid to renew a leaky driveshaft seal. The labour is the killer though, it's a gearbox out job, so the whole front end is pulled apart.
It is however a possible DIY job, if you're fairly competent with basic (read lots of) tools. I found a video on youtube showing the work, and it helped a lot!

I can easily see how the labour charge would be £200+, it took 2 of us the best part to 2 days do! But that includes taking the flywheel away to be skimmed, lots of improvising, etc.
The original made it 11 years and 108k miles in my car, so unless your's is of a similar milage, the missus may be riding the clutch.

Obviously put your own reg in and get the correct kit for the car but the clutch on a 1.6 petrol Focus is one of the easiest I have done and that was done on a driveway for a mate.
ETA: I am in no way associated with ECP, there are other motor factors out there.
