Thinking of a mondeo st diesel estate advice please :)
Discussion
Hi,
Currently run a mk 1 vectra estate for work and am thinking of the st diesel estate route as a replacement.Have searched up about the potential problems(mass fly wheel injectors etc)Is it just pot luck as to weather these will let go or a case of when not if ?.Is the parts and servicing costs reasonable?.
What should I expect in real world echonomy ? and should I be put off by high milers(my budget of 4k ish im expecting something over 100k).Any other advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Chris

I had the same conversation with my local Ford specialist the other day.
They said to leave them alone. Injectors = £1000 fix. DMF = Expensive fix also. DPF = expensive fix.
Unless you are buying one that has just had all that done.
It is a case of when not if. A company even tried replacing the dmf with a normal flywheel and it smashed the input shaft on the g/box.
Other than that nice looking car. Which is why I wanted one myself.
But not any more.

They dont have a DPF, Dual mass flywheels and clutches are no more likely to fail than any other modern car and most moderns have a DMF. My clutch/flywheel lasted til 152k when it was actually the slave cylinder that failed. (Its false economy not to do the whole job while its apart) I tow a caravan too. Injectors, again.... No more likely to fail than anything else.
Dont forget people only bragg about things theyve had trouble with. Just consider how many Mondeos are on the road and give no trouble at all, you never hear about them. Mines on 183k now and besides the usual 'consumables' has only had a clutch etc. At 152k when it needed doing I'm happy to call that fair wear and tear.....

Mine is approaching 100K and it has had one egr to intercooler pipe and the general brake discs pads e.t.c. but nothing else. I drop the oil every 6000 miles. Last service i had a leak down test on the injectors but they are all fine. In any case recon injectors £125 each and my local guy would recode them all for £20.
As said above you only hear about bad story's and there are quite a few out there. Remember the TDCI engine is in a hell of a lot of stuff.
As to the normal flywheel it has been done loads of time. STdrivers or Talkford is the place for info
bloody great cars get a good spec and you are laughing.
Would i have another? yes so ford make one!!!
