Same as all the ST's with the 5 pot. Wishbone bushes, service history, oil diaphragm, stone chips, tyres. Nothing really different across the years, even with the facelift.

Fairly solid cars, check what spec you will get. Try and go for a facelift if they are in budget.

I have had quite a few of these in the past. They have been very reliable cars with no major issues. The alloys do get kerbed very easily so check the condition of those. Make sure it has good service history. Listen for noises from the suspension over bumps. In regards to fuel economy, I have had around 35mpg on the motorway at 60-70mph. Average day to day use is mid to late 20's. Hope this helps.

Wish I got more than 30 mpg on a run LOL. We average 27 mpg on a run and less on town work. Although that maybe at more than 70 mph by a little. Must pull the ecu fuse and reset it.

Yes maybe 35mpg at nearer 60mph than 70mph! I think an average of mid 20's for general use i.e. town and motorway is a good guide.

Must be a decent little wink. 70-75 indicated has always netted 30+ (usually end up 32-34ish) for me, but as always, lots of things will influence what people get.

OP - Only things I might add would be creaky seats (can't remember if fixed by '07 - mines a 2006 and I had the problem) and look for any signs of rust where back bumper meets wheel arch.
Then, it will probably be mileage/life led stuff like bonnet chips (as mentioned). Stuff I've had on that front are a new rad, a wheel bearing (other front will no doubt go in the not too distant future) and a front suspension arm. On the chip front, my bonnet looks like it has lived through a war frown.

One thing to be wary of on the Type R front is that while it may seem (and actually be) more economical, the overall running costs might be the same due to higher insurance etc. Mine was (I was looking at a £4-500 pa difference when I got shut) and it was less reliable as well, though others have faired better on that front).

What's wrong with pre facelift then?
