My wife's 2004 Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec has recently started flashing its airbag warning light - at first only occasionally (perhaps once a week), then every other journey and now every journey.

Pattern is: flashes twice, four times in a row and then remains lit.

I've read it might be the connectors under the seats, although they look 'OK' at first inspection. I've read contradictory things about how safe it is to clean these up regarding unwanted airbag deployment!

Anyone able to help diagnose/suggest a fix - or is it simply more sensible to take it to my local garage to sort?

Thanks.

I had the same on a 54 plate Mondeo turned out to be a sensor under the slam panel apparently I shut the bonnet far too hard and knackered the sensor garage said it was the sensor for front end impact.

Unlikely to deploy the airbags as they are connectors for the seatbelt pre-tensioner pyros. 4+4 flashes does sound like pre-tensioner self check fail, and a poor connection would be prime candidate. Usually happens just after someone adjusts the seat.
