As above,

From cold you press the button (MK1 Focus RS) to fire her up and it does for a second then cuts out.

You do this 2/3 times then it starts and there is no issues. You can stop/start as many times as you like no issues.

This only started yesterday.

I don't know is it a coincidence or what but the fuel light was on but not for long about 10miles or so then i parked it up for the night. It did it this morning then when left at work all day it did it again... I have filled it up tonight so will check in the morning or later. on.

The car has been mapped, rebuilt engine ect tubular manifold....

Thanks in advance

Just had a very similar fault with my totally different Audi A4.

Turned out to be the coolant temp sensor, it was never reading below 40 deg C so in our current cold weather thought the engine was already warm.

Started suddenly and meant the car always needed a good few attempts before it would catch and run properly.

If you can get your hands on a diagnostic reader you can check the temp when the car is cold, should be roughly the same or slightly warmer than the intake air temp.

Mine was only £40 inc new o ring and clip even at main dealer rip off prices.

Mine does this when very low or when it has tesco 99 in it switch back to v power & the problem disappears rolleyes
Failing that the ecu can be reset by disconnecting the battery for half hour then restating with everything turned on (a/c lights heated screen etc) & leave it ticking over for 10 mins followed by a steady 15 min drive & this should reset the idle correctly.
Only Other thing to check is the earths (mainly the one on the offside inner wing to engine) if this has broken which is fairly common the idle goes to pot smile
Hth smile
