Transmission malfunction

Car is 2005 Focus C Max 1.6 tdi Auto
It has an error message on dash which says transmission malfunction. However the car drives perfectly!
I had the code read and the error message reset but the message returned after about 15 miles.
Has anyone encountered this error message? Is it faulty sensor perhaps?
