Hi Guys

SWMBO is in the market for her first car and she has settled on the Ford Focus.. We were looking at MK1 1.6 Zetecs as they look to be good value and offer enough performancen and from what I have read, have no big issues engine wise..

How do the engines in the MK2 compare, are they all reliable? Which is the best to go for ? Also, does the MK2 have any other expensive issues..

We have a mk2 1.6 vct ti apart from eating coil packs, and some random rough running on partial throttle its been fine

Needs some revving to make progress ( coming from a mk3 2.0 8v golf)

Power wise seems very similar to the 1.8 in my mk1

SWIMBO had a MK1 1.6 Zetec, it was a very pleasant car to drive and our daughter still has it; it's been excellent (touch wood rolleyes).

We replaced it with a Mk2 1.6 Zetec which never felt as nippy.
When it got to 4 years old it developed a series of expensive electrical
problems, it was probably just bad luck but it's put us off Fords.
