Can 225 tires fit a 2002 MK3 Mondeo Saloon?
Discussion
Hi new here.
I am about to buy part worn tires and I don't wanna make a mistake. Has anyone put 225 tires on the Saloon mk3 Mondeo before. I've read the original brochure and it says 205, but that's what tires the car came with new.
So please someone help me before I make a costly mistake.
The reason I want 225's is because I think it looks nicer than 205 and not much price difference. Also my car has 16inch alloys.
Thanks

Shouldn't be an issue, it's only 10mm more. We have 225s on our Mk IV instead of the 215s.
Just check with a tyre calculator how it affects the speedo as you may have to go down a profile to retain the same rolling radius.
What profile have you used with them, and are you still running the 16s on it?Just check with a tyre calculator how it affects the speedo as you may have to go down a profile to retain the same rolling radius.

Yes, still 16s and I went down a profile (225/50).
Any particular reason? as they doesnt seem any price difference between the standard size and the size you use? Just curious as the 215 55 16 is an over priced size IMOSuffice to say I am no poorer for the change to a slightly wider tyre and at least warmed by a placebo effect of having slightly better steering.

Nothing specific but the lower profile seemed to give marginally better grip and response in steering but we moved from the standard Eco tyres (which were pretty good in fairness) to Kumhos as they were cheaper (though possibly don't last as long) so a definitive answer is not possible. Both tyres return the same mpg so there wasn't much eco about the originals.
