RS M1 fuel consumption ..
Discussion
Fords book figure was circa 28mpg on the combined cycle for a standard one
If you have a heavy right foot & spool the turbo a lot (who couldn't resist
) then it will drop into the teens. Pretty good mpg wise on longer motorway runs but can drop in town driving.
I base this on when mine was relatively standard
I've since modified mine a fair bit from standard over the last few years so probably not the best car now for fuel consumption
I think the last time I used mine in anger I was lucky to keep the mpg in the teens
If you get a chance, get over to the Mk1 FRS section of the RSOC as the majority of the owners, including Clayton the Registrar for the model, are over there & will have all the info you could want when it comes to the normal problems, fixes, buying guide, etc
Normally a lot of the cars are known to the forum / registrar which can be good when trying to pick one up

I have never ever seen more than 300 miles out a £70 to £80 tank of fuel, even on a motorway journey.
On track I've seen about 44 miles to that tank.
They are thirsty beggars in the grand scale of things but it depends how many miles you do each month as to how much you need to budget for fuel. One year mine did 45 miles between MOTs!

I outed a fairly standard EVO VI apart from an Exhaust and Filter for my MK 1 FRS several years ago, thought it would of been quite a bit more frugal, it was but not by as much as I had hoped!
Once I fitted a Bluefin map, exhaust/sport cat and filter I was lucky to get 270 miles out of a tank of Optimax or V Power as it's called today...
