Hi all newbie here with a question.

When I signed for my ST it was already on order and as it was going to come with the tyre repair kit I asked the dealer to supply (for £185) a spare and jack etc. When I picked the car up I checked and they had supplied a 14" full size steel instead of the 15" mini spare you can factory order.

Am I right in thinking the 14" wheel is too small to fit over the front brakes/caliper? I have asked the Ford parts department and they just said nothing shows up on the computer!

The sales lady also said it would be fine, but I'm not convinced.

Common sense tells me that the mini spare wheel and the spare wheel supplied with the American spec ST are 15" for a good reason.

Am I worrying for nothing or should I get the dealer to change it?

Why dont you try fitting the 14" wheel to the car for yourself, or am I missing something obvious??
Good point. I don't want to mark up or damage the wheel in case the dealer refuses to have it back or swap it.

I have measured the inside of the rim of the spare and it is only ~12" and the front discs alone are ~11" plus the caliper.

Go into the dealer & get them to do it then if it doesn't fit it's their problem

This is what I was going to do.......when I knew for a fact it is unsuitable!biglaugh

I was trying to avoid it but think I'll just try and fit it tomorrow and take it from there.

It's probably like the rs and maybe focus st.

It should fit on the rear wheel and clear the calliper but not the front.
So if its a rear flat,no problem,if its a front you fit the spare to the rear and then the rear wheel you just took off goes on the front.

I have no idea of the RS spare wheel but the current Focus ST's come as standard with a 16"? mini spare.

What you say about putting it on the rear is true, but I'd rather have the mini spare that can be used wherever needed.

I tried the spare earlier after visiting the dealer parts department and it doesn't fit over the front brakes. Even though the only spare wheel you can order as an option on the ST is the mini spare, the parts department computer tells them the only one available for the ST is the 14"x5.5" steel spare and therefore must fit.

Even though I was pretty confident I was right on this I told the parts bloke I'd try the wheel and let him know. As I was tightening a nut the wheel brace slipped and I chipped the alloy frown

I own a Fiesta Zetec S 2010 model and had the same problem as mine car was suppled with a tyre foam repair kit. I looked at a buying a steel wheel and the local Ford dealer where my friend works sorted me out with a 15" steel wheel which fits over the brakes with no problem. My car is fitted with the 17" alloy wheels too. The price for the steel 15" wheel is about £100 with a good tyre.Check out EBay or the Ford Clearance Centre!!

Ps it may be worth going back to the dealership where you got the car from and ask them to help you out with the price of the steel wheel.Even if it a trade price its a saving Good luck!!!

I'm surprised you had a problem Clubsportguy if your ZS had standard brakes. AFAIK all 2008+ Fiesta's have the same size brakes (258mm) except the ST model.

I'm still waiting to get this sorted though. Sales lady (who has tried her best against difficult colleagues) arranged on Wednesday for me to go in this morning for service to try a 15" wheel. Of course it went to pot.

When I turn up to the service department they inform me the car isn't booked in on their system. Turns out the guy the sales lady talked to about this didn't bother booking me in.

OK, all sorted right? No. I wait 90 minutes to then be told they don't have a tyre for the wheel........

Apparently, the plan now is they will get a tyre and then try the wheel on their demo ST and if all is alright they'll call me in to swap.

Why this small problem is so difficult for them I'll never work out.

Good to hear your nearly sorted with your spare wheel. I fitted a 15" steel wheel because my car has 17" wheels and driving around om a 14" steel wheel (if it would fit which I doubt it would) wouldn't be a good idea!!
I forgot to say if you fit a steel wheel it will be fit into the spare wheel well but it will be slightly raised on the boot floor. Some extra foam on the boot floor carpet will sort it out.
Your a lucky guy wish I could try one for a afternoom

@Clubsportguy. I know what your saying re: 14" spare with 17" wheels but actually that would be OK (just).

As I understand it, so long as the overall diameter of the wheel/tyre is within +-2.5% gearing etc wouldn't be that much out.

I would probably do the same as you though!

Sale of Goods Act. If it doesn't fit it is not fit for purpose and consequently the dealer must take it back.

Finally got this sorted yesterday. Now have the correct 15" mini spare wheel.
