Gents thought I would come on here and get it from the horses mouth
I have for the last 4 years been running a ford zetec 2.0 standard engine on twin webber 45 carbs and alpha ign, which last time it was dynoed was running 158 bhp, the only addition since then is a raceline baffled sump.
Its fitted to my kit car and runs through a sierra type 9 box back to a Cortina rear axle with Quaife LSD with a 4:11 ratio.
Having raced now for the last 2 years I am now looking at upgrading however I don't know which way to go
The mileage on my sivertop is unknown although it has been reliable over the past 4 years.
I have just been given some money (which is always nice) and as far as I can see I have two options:
Stay with the silvertop and change the cams, port and polish the head and buy some ARP bolts or
Buy a crated blacktop engine and start with that , continue racing with my silvertop and over the coming year upgrade the blacktop as and when I can afford it.
The questions I have are:
1. Does my raceline sump fit the black top?
2. How much power can a standard type 9 box handle?
3. Which cams should I go for? ( looking at getting the head done, polished ported) hopefully with an end result of 185-200bhp
4. Has anyone got any bits for sale?
Cheers
John

Sumps are different silver top has an all alloy one & black top is steel.
Pretty sure other parts are interchangeable but internally the engines are very different

Silver and blacktops are actually very different engines.
Have you considered zetec turbo? Fairly straightforward to get 300hp from one.
