Bought a Transit, Hello Ford Section, couple of questions...
Discussion
Hi All,
So I've bought a 2004 90 T350 Transit, its a high miler, but in good condition and was cheap.
Couple of questions, first off, I tried connecting an OBDII/EOBD diagnostic to it, but It wont connect, I've read about EOBD compliance not really coming in on diesels until after 2004 so I guess this won't be fully compliant as it has the old engine in?
I'm downloading updates for the diagnostic as we speak, but just wondered if this was a common issue or if I've got a wiring fault?
Secondly, I just wondered if there are any common faults or issues worth knowing about, looking round at the time it seems fuel pumps and gear selector forks can be an issue, anything else I should know about?

Fuel pumps can fail there is suggestion they don't like cheap supermarket fuel how true that is I don't know, it tends to be more likely on the rwd 2.4 engine.
The gear selector issue only effects the fwd model & is caused by the selector getting water into it causing it to corrode making the gear change stiff until it breaks something else, also a bolt which holds it togetor can drop out killing the gearbox.
Some preventive maintaiance here can save you in the long run
They suffer with dual mass flywheel failure but at high miles it probably has a solid conversion already
The eobd thing is fords protocol not all cheap readers will work with it but if you have the digi dash just hold down the odometer reset turn ingnotion on wait 10 seconds & it will go into test mode & will show you any code on there.
They are a good reliable van & if looked after will serve you well do keep an eye out for corrosion though.

It doesn't have the digi-dash, but its the model where the glow plug light flashes for errors. They are a good reliable van & if looked after will serve you well do keep an eye out for corrosion though.
Do we know of any code readers that DO work (and don't cost £1000's!)
Thanks for the advice, so far *touch wood* no problems!
