The GTi was only really a badging exercise and generally not very well loved at the time. As a result I imagine you'll struggle to find one in good condition outside of specific Ford / Escort (if they exist) forums.

If budget allows, an RS2000 might be a better bet as they have the RS badge they're more likely to be better cared for.

The most unusual badged "fast Ford" ever IMO.
I was managing a team selling them at the time, and we were all confused.
Brief MK5/6 Performance Escort history.
The XR3i 16v 105 and 130s were dropped in 1994 if "favour" of the 1.6/1.8 Si models with 90/115ps engines (lower insurance) However the 130ps engine was available in the Si Cabriolet, and the 150ps RS2000 continued, in 1995 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the famous London/Mexico rally, a limited addition "Mexico" model was announced, and Ford missed out on a massive marketing opportunity , the Ltd Ed was frankly no more than a recoloured 1.6 90ps base model with some white dials rolleyes
Then in 97, with the RS being phased out, came the GTi, which apart from the confusing badge was a very well specified car, Cosworth type wheels, RS body kit and half leather. Now if that car was the 95 Mexico Ltd Edition, they would be very sort after and a future classic, not one of the marketing departments better executed plans IMO biggrin

Completely agree on the Mexico. A friend had one it was awful, an insult to the name.

Same went for the 1990/91 Sierra XR4i, nice spec, which added so much weight it was slower than the other 2-ltr Sierras of the daybiggrin
That car should have been the a 2.9 V6, like the 83-85 (2.8) XR4i?

Clean GTis are thin on the ground nowadays, really good cars though. You might consider an Si, they have similar spec, but check for things like air con and sunroof as not all had them (don't think all GTis did either though).
Best places to look are here, ebay, passionford and escort evolution.
