Kuga wheel nuts

I've just had my winter tyres put back on my '59 Kuga. I was advised to replace all the wheel nuts which were so worn and distorted they were a nightmare to get off. Has anyone else had this problem suggesting it's a Ford weakness or could it be poor workmanship on the part of my previous tyre fitters?

Have they swollen?? They have a soft metal cap over the nut which can be damaged by over use of air tools which may be what's happened to yours
