Howdy,

Went to have a look at a MK2 RS tonight as planning one for the misses.

Anyway, on inspection BOTH rear arches have the paint chipped away on the lipped inner section and rust bubbles coming through and the lips dropping slightly.

Is this a common issue on MK2s?? I had a MK1 RS earlier in the year and it didn't suffer near as bad as this one.

The car was mint minus both rear arches.... Its a 60 plate with 30k on it.

Cheers

Wow that's the first time I've heard that, bad accident repair or kept in the sea?!?

Glad mine has been kept in a dehumified garage!

Went back for another look at it today and its pretty bad.

Also where the bumper meets the rear quarter on both sides there is light bubbling as the paint is rubbed away.

Do you know is there an anti corrosion warranty on them?

Had this on my st170 and the warranty would not cover it.

I had it it on my 9 year old E46 M3 and they did both rear arches and front wings :-)

Hmmm put off that specific car will keep looking.

It's not had different wheels on it has it? My mate had a set of aftermarket wheels on his RS and they rubbed at the arches on the rear, taking the paint of and letting the rust start.

Peeling laquer is common on the mk2 ST/RS, not heard many complaints about rust though.

Avoid. Plenty of clean examples out there.

Yep, common problem I believe. My ST has gone on both sides, but pretty much at the stage of not worth doing anything about, so I haven't.

Not uncommon on the arches especially if the wheels have been spaces out
Where the bumper meets the arch is also common as the bumper runs the paint off some put a small piece of armour fend or similar on there to protect it

I can see why, mine lives in a dehumidifier-equipped garage, and I felt wet dirt inside the arch rim some days after its last outing. frown

Anti-corrosion/paintwork is 10 years but has to be inspected from year 2 and stamped in the service book.

Presumably they do that as part of a main dealer service?
