MK2 Focus RS Owners
Discussion
Hi,
Thinking of swapping my M3 for an RS, however, I need to confirm it will fit in my garage. According to the official specs its 20mm wider than the M3, however, everything counts as getting out of the M3 can already be a challenge!
Really what matters is the width between the doors (I.e. measured under the car from seal to seal). I suspect the width is what it is because of the massive wheel arches.
Any owners fancy doing me a favour and measuring it so I can compare it with my M3?
Thanks...

If I understand you correctly you want the distance from the outer edge of one sill to the other. The sills protrude a fair bit from the base of the doors.
Measured at a fairly arbitrary point (level with the drivers) I make it 1.76m.

Thank you very much! I assume that's the outside measurement not the internal one Measured at a fairly arbitrary point (level with the drivers) I make it 1.76m.

I need to confirm the measurement of the M, but if its near enough I could be in an RS

I laid a tape under the car from directly under the outside edge of one sill to the other. Happy to measure anything else you want. Why are you changing from an M3 to a Focus RS anyway?

I run a Cayman R and a Focus RS and the two cars couldn't be more different. That said, they're both fantastic to drive, and on the public road, there's not much between them in terms of point-to-point pace.
The one complaint I have is that the RS uses the same woeful pedal box as the ST did, which makes heel-and-toe downshifts nigh on impossible unless you're literally standing on the brakes. The throttle pedal is a good two inches lower than the brake pedal. Other than that though, it's a great car that sounds truly amazing, especially with a Milltek exhaust bolted on.
Honestly, I just love hot hatches and fast Fords. Had a first generation Focus RS from new, and it was one of the best cars I've ever owned. Had my second generation RS from new, and will probably hang onto it until the next one appears :-)
