Mk5 Cortina Steering Rack

Hi fellas,
Anyone know if it's a simple swap to change over from a power steering rack to a manual.
I had a leaking rack, replaced the seals, now can't get the bugger to stay straight

You need a non P/S rack AND the column to rack connector, straight bolt in job, is it a pinto or V6 ??
If pinto and you want to remove all the pump and pullys you will need a NON P/S alternator and bracket.

Try on buysellcortina, somone one there will jump at the chance for the P/S set up and probably supply the replacement parts for you at the same time.
S/H P/S racks go for £50 to £100 and will pay for a new manual rack and connector easyly.

V6 is the easyest to remove the pump, pinto is more involved.

Thanks SoWhat, that's really helpful. It's a V6, the pump and tensioner is easily accessible. Had the rack on and off half a dozen times now to try to get the valve spool set up right but given up on it now
