Ford focus zetec gearbox crunching in 3rd and 4th
Discussion
Hello all,
Bought this ford focus 2.0 zetec the other day and I absoloutly love it, smooth and easy drive with plenty of gadgets to play with however there's one thing that's really grinding my gears about it; literally..
If i change gear going up through 3rd and 4th then I get a small crunch as i do it,(3rd slightly more than 4th). The gear itself still engages and once in the gear it runs absoloutly fine. On the way back down from a gear change I found out that double declutching eliminates this crunch (given I do it properly anyway)
I've read up a little bit about it and have come to the conclusion it could possibly be a gearbox problem, possibly the synchromesh for gears 3 and 4?
But just before i go completely awol looking at replacement gearboxes ect i thought i'd change the gearbox oil before as the previous owner isn't sure of when it was last changed, bearing in mind that this car has done 62000 miles now I doubt that the gearbox oil would have been changed from having 3 previous woman drivers!
Anyone had any experience/thoughts on what else this could be? or what else i could do to get rid of the crunching i'm getting through gears 3 and 4?
Cheers, Alex
