Hi All, need some help. I was driving my 07 Focus ST225 on the motorway the other day and an ESP Fault Warning came on after about half an hour to an hour. The car seemed fine and I kept going for an hour or 2 more. Once I turned the car off and back on the fault had gone. The next day on my return the fault came back. It only seems to do this on the motorway, I drive half an hour to and from work every day and have never got the warning and i haven't seen it since that day but i haven't been on the motorway. We don't take the car on the motorway very much as we tend to use my wife's car. So this may of been an issue for some time and we just never noticed.

I am planing to take it to Le Mans this year and really don't fancy it going in to limp mode or something over there.
Any ideas welcome.

Check your brake lights, IIRC the ESP light came on with mine when the brake light switch had failed (stuck on!). Different car but may work in the same way??

Typically it's an air leak somewhere, although you'll want to keep driving until you get the EML ideally. It'll probably be P0101 which is a MAF code so check for leaks, then try cleaning the MAF and then do a KAM reset (remove fuse 26 under the bonnet for 20 minutes).

Sounds very similar to what happened with mine. It shouldn't go into any form of limp mode, you just don't have ESP (if that bothers you).
I thought it might be an expensive fix, so drove around with it appearing/disappearing randomly for several months (stopped me buying a Z4 coupe at one point as it cropped on the way to the garage & wouldn't go away). It then went away as randomly as it appeared and has never been seen since.

Has the potential to be one of several things, I guess.
