Driving to work this morning I noticed my car was quite excitable in low gears from pull away. As I drove a bit further I noticed my turbo dial wasn't moving. I put my foot down and the turbo didn't kick in. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Had a look around under the bonnet after work, couldn't see anything, checked oil while bonnet up. On the way home the turbo was fine. Strange.

Boost gauge is electric . Doesnt actually take a reading of specific boost from the engine. I would be looking at the boost solenoid, if all hoses are sound.

It was fine on the way into work this morning too, boosting and gauge working.

However, on the way home it misbehaved again, no boost from the turbo and it felt quite 'lumpy' under acceleration. I stopped at a shop and when I continued my journey I had boost again, I gave it a bit of welly and when I lifted off the gauge went right up to the maximum.

Does this sound like a boost solenoid problem? I'm just a bit worried as I lose boost completely.

Yeah, definitely sound like a boost control solenoid issue.

They are about £45 from Ford.

I had this same problem, however mine boosted briefly then, the boost pressure dropped off.
Took a stab in the dark about it being the boost pressure solenoid, good guess, this was the fault.
Easy enough to change, get the car up,take the under tray off,if ure underneath the car, standing with the drivers front wheel to the right of ure head the sensor is just above the driveshaft with 3 vacuum hoses going to it.
I changed mine, granted I am a technician to trade but u shouldn't have to much bother changing it.
Boosts perfectly now.
