Hi all

Occasionally I get a gurgling sound from behind the centre of the dashboard- almost like water bubbling through something- normally happens when been running for a little while- something to do with the air con? Can only hear when stationary and it tends to go away after a while

Any ideas?

Thanks so much Matt

Heater matrix? It happens in my Impreza (behind the glove box).

Ah yes that could be it- serious or just annoying? A new one looks pricey and must be difficult to fit

I can't speak specifically for fords, but on my Impreza it's usually because of an airlock in the cooling system. Apparently Imprezas are prone to this because of the engine layout, or something.

Providing the temperature garage is not creeping up, then I wouldn't worry.

On Imprezas you typically burp the cooling system by taking the reservoir cap off, which is at the highest point of the cooling system.

On my Alfa, it happens when the aircon is on, stops as soon as it's switched off. Been happening for a while to no obvious negative effect, so I don't worry about it.

Check your coolant level.

It's just the refrigerant in the air conditioning system. My 2005 ST TDCi did it for the 7 years I owned it. I found it most noticeable immediately after switching the engine off.
