Ford Galaxy hybrid CVT any good?

A relative is after a petrol Galaxy after a string of emissions related problems on an older diesel one.
They've found a 22 plate hybrid petrol 2.5L model which has a CVT gearbox. Does anybody have any experience of this powertrain? Previous one had the PowerShift so I'm wondering if it's out of the frying pan into the fire...
I haven't heard anyone talking about it at all, and can't really find any decent reviews on it.
It'll be used mostly for longer trips into France etc. Handling, speed, not a concern really.
