Hi

I just bought a 1996 1.8d fiesta quartz - its done 83k and i was wondering whether the cam belt should have been changed, or when it is due?

Thanks
Mark

If you have no record of it being changed do it now.

I think it's about 40k between change's I'll check later.

Change it now if you don't know when it was done last, you should also get a pulley kit for it as well. They used to be changed every 30,000 miles, not sure if that has increased since I had my 1.8D

96 cars were replaced on 40k intervals if used in normal conditions, from around mid 97 the interval was increased to 70k.

As mentioned, if you don't know the history of the engine's useage, get it replaced for the pure piece of mind. While it's having it done, make sure the idler pulley and the tensioner are replaced.

It would also be prudent to inspect the crankshaft front seal for leaks and also the water pump for leaks and rotational roughness.
Failures of both these items at a later date will both reduce the belts service life.
