2002 Mondeo duratec idle/hunting problems help needed.
i'm having problems with the idle tick over.when i start the car the hunting starts then after 1 - 2 mins it settles down.I've changed the Ht leads to new ones because i thought it was missing.I've also put injector cleaning fluid with the petrol.
however i still get this hunting on start up every time even when warm/hot.

it's only a guess - it's one of several sensors in the engine that can affect running
it'll likely be screwed into the exhaust downpipe - it's typically a cylindrical gizmo, about the size of a cigarette lighter. There'll be wires connected to it
it analyses the exhaust gases - if it's shot, it'll be sending dodgey readings to the ecu and could account for the erratic running
as said though - it's one of several sensors - any of which could be at fault
edit : could be the idle control valve!!!
Mike
a mate had similar problems with an earlier mondeo recently - changed leads, idle control valve and lambda sensor - turned out to be the coil ... it's just a guessing game unless you can hook it up to diagnostics whilst it's producing the problem

Zad said:Almost certain to be the problem as it's a well known thing to happen to v6 mondeos for some reason and free to fix (if you have carb cleaner). Have done mine twice now.
More likely to be the idle control valve that is sticking surely? Look in a Haynes manual and give it a blast with carb cleaner and check the connections are secure (the valve that is, not the manual). 2002 Seems a bit new for something like that though.
Take off the ICV, fill with carb cleaner and let soak, shake and empty and repeat several times. Watch your eyes and the stuff can shoot straight back out if you blast it in and will tend to fizz out when you've shaken it and removed your fingers to let the stuff out.

Mark
Hi Guys
OK. This is a common problem that isn't even covered within service schedules on any car. I have a 2.5 Mondeo Duratec. The day I picked it up was the day I did the following. Take off the air intake rubber tube. There you will see the butterfly. Pull the throttle cable to move the butterfly as flat as poss. Then spray with carb cleaner making sure all edges are sprayed and clean. Then wipe with a clean cloth the housing and butterfly edges. Push on the rubber hose and tighten clip. You're done! Start the engine. Might take a few seconds to start but when it does you'll notice the difference! END OF HUNTING PROBLEM. I have done this to so many cars I've lost count!
Cheers
