Hello again, my Ford Fiesta 1.1 HCS has a problem. When i come to a set of lights or a junction and need to put my foot on the clutch, the engine stalls. It has done this on and off since ive had it, but now it is getting quite bad. The engine will always start up again, but its embarassing and starting to get on my nerves a bit now. Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

I think youve got one of the old cfi units on yours with a stepper motor to control idle,it may well need adjustment at a garage.

If it's the old carb version, then check the carb itself is seated properly. I had a problem like this with mine whereby the carb had come loose and excess air was getting sucked in causing it to go too lean and stall.

Thanks guys, i think its a single point injection. The carb isnt loose as far as i know. So its a garage job then is it?

I wouldnt fiddle with it just get a garage to have a look at it if they are familiar with the cfi unit,at worst it may require a replacement cfi unit.

How much are those normally? Would this car have an ICV on it?

So theres no idle control valve on it, and you cant adjust the idle speed of the carb anyway. Looks like its a trip to the garage then. To be fair to it, ive had it almost two years and its done well, rattles like hell but still keeps plodding on, thanks for your help Paul and Jon, much appreciated.
