Hey there guys,

I just wanted to say thankyou for all the help and advice that people here have given me over the last few weeks / months regarding car stuff, its been a real help, thankyou.

I picked up my Mondeo today, for the most part im very pleased with it, though I do now have some small reservations about the car's overall condition.

The first thing I noticed is that when I tried to pull out my TomTom charger from the cigarette lighter, the whole lighter cylinder came out of the plastic holder thing.

The second thing is that there is 2 broken elements in the rear heated windscreen, so when you put the rear on to demist, it leaves a small say (1 inch) bit where it doesn't mist properly, but goes eventually.

The last two things are maybe more serious, there is (as far as I can tell) a slight vibration and / or knocking when turning around sharp corners at low speed, now I know from my Golf that had the exact same problem but it just got worse and louder, and it was the CV joint that needed replacing, so im going to call the dealer about that on Monday.

The car comes with a 3 month warranty, but what that covers im not 100% sure. I phoned the guy when I discovered the lighter problem, and he said to bring it in whenever and he would get it sorted The steering issue isn't that noticable, and only occurs sometimes and not others. It could be just road feedback, or having to adjust to a new car, but im going to err on the side of caution and get it looked at I think.

Anyway, here it is...

Most cars get a clunk when turning on full lock, nothing to worry about. Or do you mean a continual knocking/vibration?

You need JonGT2, he knows most faults...

OK, ive just been out for a drive in it, took it to the local Tescos 24 Hour car park where there is a nice huge unused area and I practiced manovering the car around the car park at low speed and here is what I found.

When the wheel is straight and I turn it to the right, all is ok, no noise, vibrations, clunking or knocking, however as soon as I start to turn the wheel to the left (be that from the central position or from full right lock) there is slight "vibration" or "wobble" through the wheel, accompanied by faint repeating light clunking / knocking sound. I spent some 5 minutes testing it out, and this was definately the case. All this is very subtle, but its definately there. It almost feels as though the wheel is "loose".

I had a Golf MK3 which had a CV joint go on it, and with that there was a very loud knocking noise when you had full lock on, that would slow down and speed up depending on how much lock you had on and how fast the car was going.

Is it likely to be the CV joint also with the Mondeo?

Thanks.

It might be that the lower suspension arm bush is breaking up on one side. When the CV joint started breaking up on my dads, it had an audible clickclickclickclickclick but no vibration.

When I say a vibration, I don't mean like a washing - machine running on full type violent vibration, but a slight vibration in the wheel, that occurs for a split second then goes, then comes back, then goes and so on, all while turning left. Once again, turning right doesn't have this problem.

I am not sure if it is suspension related, as even when there is no weight transfer (ie standing still) if I just park it then start to turn the wheel, the same thing occurs. So I think its definately something related to either the joints or maybe even the pump, I don't know, im not really car techy (although I know basic stuff).

Same thing happens on my Mk 3 TDCi, it also sometimes does it, if I stick a can in the holder near the handbrake.

Yeah, that entire section isn't that well stuck together - my gf put a bottle into the cup holder just behind the the cigar lighter - it was a tight fit and when I went to take the bottle out the entire section came with it!

I was slightly dumbstruck as I comedically held up a huge section of plastic attached to the car only by the wires leading to the cigar lighter!

I'm sure lots of superglue would prob solve that problem. I am just more gentle now.

As for the problem while turning - I'd take that back to the dealer ASAP while you can. It doesn't hurt to get it checked out but it may hurt if something expensive goes wrong out of warranty.
