Anyone here had any problems with their chargecooler pump on the above? I first noticed by chance that the pump wasn't running when i was messing about doing something else. I gave it a thump and it started working again but has since packed up again, trouble is its silly money for a new one (£450 ish plus vat) and while i dont mind spending the money if thats what it takes i would like to explore all the options first (before the engine melts hopefully). It looks like it comes apart so i might try stripping it and cleaning it first but any help would be apprieciated.

done a couple of these, the brushes on one had melted /burned completely but the second just needed a clean up with some 1200# paper on the armetureand brushes, and a little grease on the shaft bearings.
(its very important to clean between the segments after as the debris will cause power to leak across them as such and cause problems.I use the edge of a strip of wet&dry

Excuse my ignorance, but couldnt you put an equivelant pump in so long as it shifts the same amount of water? Dont think I would go this route, more out of interest really.

Also, is the only way you find out if it has failed noticing it not being on? Isnt there something to tell you its failed? I wonder, because I had a CC fitted recently, and I am going to fit a temp guage to keep an eye out incase the pump fails and I start pumping hot air into the engine!

Cheers.

Time for an update. Took it off and stripped it down and the brushes are shot ive cleaned it all up and its working in the meantime just dont know how long for.

Ive looked around and have found a electric chargecooler pump for sale at demon tweeks for £100 ish which is better than the Ford option and is highly rated by esprit turbo owners which i would imagine have more heat issues than the Focus.

Will post again when i get the pump on but this has given me an excuse to take the car off the rd to sort out some "round to it jobs" smile

or bin the charge cooler setup and replace it with a nice spec FMIC. Perhaps an FMIC would be a touch more laggy but they arent prone to heat soak

That is of course the other option but the kits are a tad overpriced at the moment imho

bosch PCA12 is a good pump. I'm using one, output is very strong.

Neil if you use the RSOC forum have a word with Minimadgriff on there if you need a new chargecooler pump (much cheaper than Ford wink )
