Looking for tyre recommendations for ST TDCi. Bought the car with Continentals on the back and Goodyear on the front, 225/40ZR18. Turns out, there is a noise (blocking) coming from the Goodyears (swapped with rear and the noice moved).

The Continentals are a bit iffy tread-wise' I need to change all four.

Any rec's? and do they have to be a ZR rating?

Never had them so wouldnt know im afraid (re vredistien) but have worked in the motor trade for many years and mich do tend to be top banana in any size i went to goodyear f1's for a while but as mentioned before i would avoid them now. Mich's are expensive but can be bought for less than you have been quoted though so shopping around does pay. Try black circles on the web on special at the mo fitted £144.68 they deliver to a place nearest to you and you just go and get them fitted smile

I've been looking at this myself over the past week as my tyres are getting very close to replacement time.

The standard fit Continentals have failed to impress, and appear to be made from liquorice. Apparently, the new Sport Contact 3s are a big improvement, but they seem to be prohibitively expensive. Other than that, I've considered the Michelin PS2, but again they're £140 each plus VAT. A local fitter does Toyo T1-Rs for £75 each plus VAT. Are the Michelins really worth the extra? Has anyone tried Toyos on their ST?

hi im new on here but in connection to asking if t1r's are any good, i must sell 5 sets of t1r's compared to micheilins, personally i had mich primacy on my focus and i put the toyo cf1 on my focus and i get much better grip on the corners although havin toyos my mileage has gone down due to driving it harder as i have more grip, swings and roundabouts really lose a bit of mileage but get more grip and save more money

Not had the toyos on my Focus but had them on my old escort rst, i cant say i was impressed to be honest as only got about 2500 miles out of them (about 4-5k was average) and they were not good when wet. In their defence a lot of people do rate them quite highly. The mich will last a lot longer.
Mich are more expensive for a reason i went to an open day with them a few years back and according to their pack that they handed out they reckon they spend more money on R&D than any other manufacturer which is why their tyres are dearer than others (that was from them so how true i dont know). The mich was the tyre of choice on the Focus Rs when new when pretty much all other Fords rolled out of factory on conti's, i think that shows something??

I have just put some Goodyear EAGLE F1 Asymmetrics on my TDCi. £108 each fitted.
So for they are very good much better than the older Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 that I had on before.
Both better than the Continental ContiSportContact 2

Hope this helps

What's the wear-rate like on the Goodyears? The Contis lasted me around 8000 miles for the fronts.

On the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 I was getting about 24,000 from a set if I swapped them round front to rear.
I don't know about the Asymmetrics yet I've only done a few k on them.
I will say they are much quieter than the old ones.

I've got Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics - had them for about 3k so far and the grip is phenomenal. The wear doesn't seem too bad and they've been out on track twice in that period.

Personally I'd recommend them or the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's which my mate has put on his ST200 which seem just as good smile.

I've just replaced my Conti Sportcontact 2s with Eagle F1 Asymmetrics all round.

Its always hard to compare worn out tyres with new ones, the F1s certainly have loads of grip in all conditions, but I've they've made the steering a fair bit lighter which makes it feel like there is less feedback and grip when cornering. Its probably all in my head though...

An update on my tyres - the reason my car was feeling a tad vague with the F1s on it was that the mobile internet based tyre fitting company hadn't bothered to balance any of my wheels. Also looks like they didn't fit the new valves I paid for either.

Car has been balanced perfectly today by ATS, who said the existing weights hadn't been touched for years. Angry letter fired off to internet tyre company for full refund of fitting charges.

Was talking to a guy in ATS today who has just had those (Vredesteins) put on his Audi RS4 - he really rated them.

They're a good tyre; low road noise, good in the wet and the tread pattern looks good too.

Kwik Fit (yes, I know they're commonly regarded as muppets) are doing 15% off two and 30% off four Pirellis until the end of August. I've just had a quote for £450 for a set of P Zero Neros, which compares very favourably with £600 for Conti PS3s. I'll let you know how they are.
