Hello everybody,

Got rather a large problem, a few weeks ago the alarm on my 2001 Y Reg ST200 started to do strange things!!

When you lock the car using the remote after about 20-30 Sec's the alarm would go off (Not that it's very loud!!) now it does not even go off it just flashes the indicators. Also when you unlock it the alarm would go off!!

It went into Fords and they said it's not the bonnet switch it's either the Horn or Modul, Problem is NO Ford Dealer in the UK has got a Horn. (I've got all the part numbers)

Anybody had a similar problem/does that sound right??

Failing that can anybody recommend a good Cat 1 Alarm.

I doubt it's the horn, but try disconnecting it and see what happens.

More likely to be the module but....

....there are small switches in the central locking units in each door, if one is broken they will cause problems as well

The wife's car did something similar last year, the dealer was as useful as a chocolate teapot, coming up with all sorts of ideas.

In the end I diagnosed the problem as being the rubber catch on the drivers door side. Essentially it had worn back so that although the door was fully closed the rubber catch wasn't fully engaged, thus the alarm would trigger but only flashing the hazard lights eventually leading to a flat battery.

You can test it by leaving the door fully open and manually depressing the rubber switch and then locking the car from the fob. If the alarfm doesn't trigger you've found the fault.

Just went outside to try it,

I left the Drivers Door fully open and held the black door switch and used the remote to lock the car, as soon as the car locked it unlocked straight away even though I was holding the switch????

Though it was too good to be true, got excited for a minute.

Ford tell me the module is about £250 and they are not sure that will solve the problem "Great"

Just so there is no confusion I've circled the little blighter that caused the problem on the wife's car, it sits behind the bar and pushes in. When the door was shut it wasn't depressing that all the way in and tripped the alarm but only the hazards.

I've just been and tried it again and it's still not having it!!

Don't know why because each time i press it in after a delay the interior lights go off but when you try and lock the car with the remote it locks then unlocks straight away

Thank you for your help and the picture, this ones going X Files

Just a suggestion, try taping it down and then closing the door to set the alarm or applying pressure to the door at that point after locking it. Your symptoms appear to be identical to the ones we experienced. (New modules were mentioned without any guarantees being offered by the dealer of resolving the problem)

The MEGs site ( http://www.fordmondeo.org/ ) has/had some alarm diagnostics routines, which can help you localise the problem. And probably a dozen people who can say "yeah, that happened to me" and can give you the Finis code of the offending article!

Probably find you're solution off the MEG site, but something to add: if you're trying to alarm it with the door open then you'll also need to use a screw driver and turn the locking mechanism at the edge of the door, so that it thinks its closed. Otherwise the sensor in the door module detects the car door isn't shut, and doesn't let you lock it.

The MEG site (I think) has the button pushes required to put the alarm into a test mode (its something simple like pressing the bonnet switch 10 times) so you can walk around the car pushing sensors and the lights flash as it detects the change.
