OK. Over a year ago we had the clutch and release bearing replaced on SWMBO's Fiesta* Since then we have had an oil leak - which was noted at the last MOT - the entire gearbox area was plastered with oil. OK, says I - fix it. Which they have attempted by replacing the gearbox and clutch. Blow me if it wasn't still leaking. However I took it back and asked them to turn the breather the right way round (see previous threads). The flow of oil has dramatically reduced!

Now it is still leaking oil - engine oil which appears to be coming from the clutch cover frown

So,

a) Could the garage have buggered a crank oil seal when replacing the clutch? and
b) how difficult is it to fix?

Any advice welcome.

(I'd have a go at fixing myself - but SWMBO wants her car all the time!)

  • I'm training her not to use the clutch pedal as a footrest.

replacing a crank seal is a fairly tricky job, it would involve removing either engine or the gearbox, its hard to damage the seal as its situated behind the flywheel which should and i mean should not have been moved just to replace a clutch, how much oil does it use roughly?
