I’ve owned my car for about 4 months. I need to get an MOT but thought it best to give it a service also. The car came with a fairly comprehensive service history so I know it was given a major 60k service in 2004 and an interim in 2006. It’s just coming up to 72k on the clock now (1997 R-reg) so was wondering what service I should give it (interim/full/major)? I’m thinking it may only need an interim but given below I should give it a full service (peace of mind mainly) and mention the power issue too for investigation?

Another issue – need to do some trouble-shooting. Sometimes the car gets to about 4k revs and the power just dies, other times it pulls through the full rev-range. I’m sure it’s nothing too serious but I don’t know where to start in terms of figuring out what’s wrong. Obviously this could cause issues when overtaking as there’s no pattern to when the power saps. Any thoughts? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thx

3750rpm is where the secondary throttles should open. If they don't open then it just runs out of power.

Have a look at the forum on www.fordmondeo.org to work out which version of the engine you have, and which components to look at.

Only Mk1's had vac operated secondary valves so a '97 ***should*** be an IMRC under the Duratec V6 engine cover...........

It’s always at higher revs than this that the power goes, and it’s an intermittent problem.

I’ll get the IMRC checked out.
