My parents have owned an Escort Cosworth Monte Carlo from new, and are looking to sell as they're approaching retirement and need something practical for a new dog. They're struggling to decide on an asking price and have asked me for advice.

It's got about 75k on it, full service history, shows as 2 owners (my dad's old company and then my mum - both at their home address). It's never been crashed or modified in any way. The gearbox crunches at high revs from second to third but other than that it's mechanically sound. Cosmetically it's in need of a little TLC to get it mint again. There is a rust spot by the fuel cap and some minor dings and scrapes around the paintwork. The alloys are all fairly corroded and need a refurb or replacement.

Does anyone have an idea where to price it? I've got no clue as to what the market for these old beasts is doing and would appreciate any pointers.

The market for these is very hard to gauge due to it being a specialist car, probably best sticking it on ebay with a decent reserve & seeing what it makes. An advert on Rs owners sites may drum up some intrest.

In the current climate only real enthusiasts are willing to part with good money for an old car.

I actually put my Focus Rs up for sale recently but had no resonable offers on it so have decided to keep it for thr forseeable future.

Alternativly if they can afford to do it get the odd bits and pieces sorted clean it up and bung it in storage these cars are getting rarer by the day and once the current 'climate' is past get it out and then sell it as will probably only go up in price.

Best place to ask is probably the RS Owners Club via their forum tbh - http://bbs.rsownersclub.co.uk

You should get your answer there smile

Edit - Also www.passionford.com as another Ford/RS forum

illd say it was worth more than 8k, as long as the car has all its standard features like the wheels, seats and gearknob.
