Hi,

I'm thinking about buying a Capri, but not sure, so want to get some thoughts back. I've never really been into cars, I've driven for about 10 years but what goes on under the bonnet is between my mechanic and the car smile

However, the capri has sparked my interest and am looking forward to building up my knowledge and having a bit of a project. My plan would be to get one in good condition (MOT'ed etc) so I'm not diving in at the deep end and can do bits and pieces as I learn.

One thing I am concerned about is I do not have a garage, so it would be parked in a driveway. Would this in itself rule out getting a car of this age, or with the right level of maintenance should it survive living the outdoor life?

Other than that, any advice would be welcome (books, websites, what to expect etc.). The decision is yet to be made, so feel free to try to talk me into/out of it smile

Cheers

Ah, Capris cloud9

Pretty simple to work on, but trim and bodywork can be difficult to source. Join the Capri Club International, as the magazine is a good source of parts and suppliers.

However, lookout for rust. Lots of it. It'll be everywhere!!!

i'm selling my Z3 at the moment and may toy with the idea of a Capri, so will watch this with interest. (I'm probably of similar mechanical ilk.)

Hi,

Well, after much deliberation and hunting, I have now got myself a blue 2.8i Capri. Just bought it today, and got it home this evening. About a 70 mile trip home, and aside from the capri testing my commitment by cutting out several times and then refusing to start (always fun trying to search for the hazard lights switch when cars are totting behind you), it was a lot of fun and am well pleased. It also decided not to start disembarking the ferry, but it is just so much fun to drive these minor issues where irrelevent smile

I've put the issues down to overheating, but really I don't have a clue, my next step is to get my hands on a manual and start getting to grips with what is under the hood. I expect there will be a lot of questions to follow smile

Cutting out because it was overheating?

Think your first job might be a fan switch and a thermostat
