Hi guys, Just been offered the above!
Up until now had never heard of one, It is pretty immaculate with 89,000 miles
Apparently only 8 were made for directors of Ford 1988/89 and also came with Air/Con
Anyone have any info for me about this and any ideas what it is worth??
In Flintstone Grey.
Cheers Rich

I have seen one & that belonged to someone high up in ford. It didnt have recaros (same leather seats as a granada) and it was painted in 2 tone paint a bit like the 2000e special editions were.
Value wise ????? if the body is good and its low miles then maybe 6k but this is a complete guess auto & cosworth dont really go together very well.

Is it from a trader, or just someone you know?

Any pics?

Wouldnt an auto/kickdown and turbo lag make for an interesting combination? I drive auto's so would be interested in it.

Having worked for a Ford during the late 80`S to 1998, and being a bit of an anorack of all things Ford of that period, i can confirm that FMC commissioned, and approved, Hartford Motors ltd and a company called Somar Trantec to convert 2WD Sapphire Cosworths to automatic. They used the Ford A4LD four speed auto gear box, the development was finished late in 1989 and a few cars were converted before the 4 wheel drive version came out in 1990, it was impossible to mate a auto box with the 4x4.You will have a pretty rare car, estimate less than 50 converted IIRC?. The pictures and details i saw late in 89 where of a Flint Grey car reg F111 N*W.
If i can dig up any thing else from my archives i will let you knownerdbiggrin

I`m not surprised no one knows a great deal about it, it is 20 years ago now.
Hartford Motors where a RS dealer and rally car preperation specialist based in Oxford, not sure they still exist now? And whether anyone is still working there from the 80`s also.
Performance Ford Magazine road tested the Cossie auto, maybe try and get a back copy off E=Bay or something?

Nice artical cheers smile

i do love a "built for company directors" thread LOL
the amount of special buids that were put down to company directors is amazing, just a few of the supposed director builds i've seen advertised with the real reason they exsist in brackets.

2 door RHD 1600E (cancled order for the SA police)
Mk3 cortina 3.0 pick up truck (normal SA model)
2 door Mk4 cortina 2.0S (german built special order for a serviceman)
2 door Mk5 cortina 2.0 GLS as above serviceman stationed in GER)
3.0 Mk4 cortina S (standard SA modlel)
3.0 Mk1 escort (Uren conversion or superspeed)
2.8 turbo Mk2 granada (broadspeed conversion)
Mk3 escort with P/S (mobility special order NOT done by ford)
Auto 2.8 capri (see main thread)

SVO would have been swamped with all the special conversion they did for the managment smile

Mind you Ford did make a rather special RS2000 for (i thbnk) henry ford Jr ??
Auto sierra cosworth (see main thread)

yep, they did a special RS2000, with leather, and auto...featured in either Classic Ford or similar years ago

in fact, the special XR4i was built for his wife, to celebrate her/their visit to the UK around the same time as the car was launched.
car was one of the very first off the production line, then converted soon after registration.
same spec - auto, leather, full early spec bar heated front seats. reg was GJN733Y and belonged to a friend of mine who was a chauffeur in London for years, which is how he came to know of the car and own it.
sadly the condition of it cosmetically suffered greatly and he simply didn't have the money to restore it
I'll dig some photos out of it

My ex-wife's brother had one of the Automatics for a while. Went like a rocket and understood it to be one of only a handful built. He got rid well over 10 years ago, somewhere in Kent. Was an impressive bit of kit though! Good to hear some background behind the concept, thanks.

Was it blue by any chance? I remember looking at one at our local car sales place & remember that it was a Y plate also. This would have been around 1993/4.
