Puma central locking problem
Discussion
Hi folks,
Have posted this on PumaPeople but not really getting anywhere with it, wondered if anybody here has had a similar problem as I'm sure it's all parts bin stuff.
It has remote central locking, one blip on the remote locks, two blips double locks it and sets the alarm. One blip to unlock. Can also use the key in the lock to do both.
Basically, from time to time the car refuses to unlock using the remote. Rather than the usual "whirr click" you get "whirr click whirr click whirr" and it remains locked. Once it does it it continues doing it ad nauseam and won't unlock.
Using they key in the door at this time does nothing - it turns but no whirring or clicking.
Using the passengers door at this time sometimes seems to work (or at least unjams it so that you can unlock the car with the remote).
It seems to be happening more and more often.
There's a few people it seems to have happened to but no definite solution that I can find.
I assumed at first something needs greasing and motor is struggling - but then why would the key in lock not produce any whirring at all? Likewise, why then when it jams does it stay jammed? If it's intermittent it's intermittent, surely?
Anyway, had the door apart today, greased everything that I could but it still does it from time to time. Saw a solenoid suggested on PumaPeople but not sure which or where it is. The central locking actuator seems to be part of the lock and involves removing the window glass which I don't fancy much, especially as all I'd do is have a look at it, lubricate it, check connections, and put it back...
Anybody any experience of these problems? Worried it'll leave Mrs.NCoT locked out at some stage, and have no doubt that a Ford dealer will replace all the locks, motors, and the GEM control unit at great expense whilst not fixing the problem...

i had the same problem on my fiesta although older where the wires pass through the door into the main section of the car there are multiplugs where the doors are opened and closed sometimes they are making the connection and working fine othertimes they are not meeting and creating the problem you have could be on either door what i would do is pull out the multi plug clean it up and check everything looks ok and that no wires have broken you can easily do it yourself as they simply clip in

Seems to defy logic though, so I will have a look at the connectors tomorrow!
