Recently purchased the mentioned car and I am concerned about its consumption.
Its the 115 bhp version (50000 miles)and I'm getting around 31 mpg according to the trip computer which seems about right judging by the regular trips to the station.
Daily commute of 20 motorway miles and 8 town driving miles stop/start and not driven particularly quickly either.
Have seen quotes of a lot higher mpg.
Anyone with any experience of this, I have also bought a chip to increase power and/or MPG, but havn't fitted it yet, any experience of these.

Cheers in advance

i've got a 2.5 v6, have the climate and heated seats on all the time and get about 26 mpg average, some motorway, bit of heavy city traffic and the odd hoon, my mates got a 2004 130bhp tdci and he gets about 38 doing the same sort of stuff as me. Theres a fuel conumption wiki on here somewhere which may help u, do a search.

I had the 130 version and an auto, and got better economy than that...I'd say that sounds a bit low, although it depends how fast you go on the motorway.

I had my car chipped/mapped and it made a massive difference to performance, but we had to drill a plate off the ECU under the bonnet to get to it!

i had a 90 bhp tddi focus 1.8, that used to get around 30 to a gallon just driving around town, and that was with 200k on the clock, have had a focus tdci 1.8 115bhp since xmas day and i get about 35 around town and i boost a hell of a lot, (due to where my house is situated in my town not cos i drive like a moron)

I have the 130 TDCi and have never got it under 40 to the gallon.

There are 2 thermostats on the common rails, I think the TDDI's are the same. Also check the coolant temp sender. It'll cost you £80 for a Ford diagnostic which in some cases they refund if they do the work for you (it'll be whatever the computer says though)

Do some searches at fordmondeo.org and see if you can pinpoint it from other experience

Not sure, will check tomorrow, I did think it was more or less on cold a few weeks ago after a fair bit of town running which I thought odd.

Assuming you're using the turbo that sounds like it's not getting hot enough, which would point to a thermostat stuck open. The idle will be quite high as well I'd guess and I think that would be related to your MPG problem. Change the thermostat(s) and I bet it'll be much better.

The temp gauge on mine will sit just below half way when warmed up, and idles at 750 rpm. About 800/900 with air con on and/or cold start
