I've been offered a low mileage pristine Cosworth at a very competitive price and am tempted for a number of reasons including the nostalgic feelings it brought back from my youth when I lusted after one and couldn't afford an old Cortina 1.3!

Just looking for opinions on whether or not a low mileage, full history, concours condition (ie no messing/modifying) Cosworth is likely to increase/decrease or neither of those over the next ten years or so, not to make a fortune but as a long term keeper to be brought out for high days and holidays and kept in the usual dehumidified enviroment necessary to preserve such an iconic piece of automotive significance, not to mention that the money's doing sod all sat in the bank!

Thanks

Hi there
As with any car you risk loosing money but to be honest the Cos has already survived one recession without dropping a bucket load so I would imagine you would be okay. I had a 1989 Saff which was heavily modified and bought for £5kish (can't remember exactly) and sold it 2 years later with no MOT or Tax for £4.5k so I guess there is always a market. I think the cossie will go down in history and be mentioned in the same breath as MK1 Mexico's, RS's and Mk2 RS2000's. I may be wrong but I don't think you will be taking a massive gamble if the price is right.

Just to make it clear I am not saying you will make you fortune buying this but I can't see them dropping so much it will break you either.

If the car is a good condition, standard with a low number of owners at a good price then it's could be a safe place to keep money, i wouldn't say that you would make mega bucks having said that you only have to look at motors like the mrk 2 rs2000 in mint condition, they get very good money.
i love the escort cosworth and if you owned it 10 years and only got what you paid i think you will find you had years of enjoyable ownership. ps monte's are always a good investment.
