When I got my focus 3 years ago it only came with the one key, this key is getting a bit worse for wear now so I guess its time I spend out and get some cut.

The thing that has put me off is hearing that it could cost me anywhere upto £200 for new keys!

The key I have at present is a remote locking key with three buttons on a 52 plate focus st170. Is there anywhere I can get a new key cut other than Fords main dealer?

Also should I have a red master key or is that a thing of the past now?

Al the Fords i've had registered after 1999 have had a non-remote master key with a blue insert, had to get a new remote fob for a Focus from the dealer once (Not the key part, just the bit with the 3 buttons) this cost me £70 + £10 for programming but i needed the master key!

Your best bet might be to pick a key up on eBay. There's lots of auctions on there for complete keys, or just the transponder or actual key part. Get the key cut locally and then there's instructions on the web on how to programme the key instead of paying your dealer to do it.

Just remembered, I think you need two coded keys for the car to do the DIY re-programming trick. You can probably still get the keys cheaper off eBay though.
