Going to look at one tomo, anything particular i should look out for on a t/drive. The car in question is a 2007, 56 plate. (Advertised as facelift version?) what extras were included in the facelift and do all these come with cruise control as standard? What options were available?

Kind regards & thanks,

PP.

P.S would like to hear any comparisons to a Mk1 Octavia vRS (My P/X)

2007 56 plate? Surely you mean 07 plate? Whatever it is those years are the latest facelift version. Look out for dropping rear bumper-gap around rear lights.

btw, there were no 220's made in 2007-mine was one of the last before the lines closed down(so i was told), build date was December 2006.

By remarkable coincidence, I made this precise switch myself. I went from a Black Magic Octavia vRS (via a Micra for a few months) to a 53-plate ST220. Check them out on my profile.

The vRS feels faster (especially after being chipped), but isn't really as quick - this is a function of the turbo kick. The Mondeo's a much more civilised car, but I do miss the craziness of the Octavia sometimes.

Build quality of the Mondeo is leagues ahead of the Octavia. Y'know how those white cloth panels on the seats fray and get grubby? The Mondeo's Recaros are just so much more robust. The dashboard, switchgear and everything else just feels more solid.

Boot space on the Mondeo is slightly larger, and rear legroom in the Mondeo is far superior.

The Mondeo is, obviously, a good deal more thirsty, but I was surprised that there isn't much difference in servicing costs. The Mondeo has been cheaper to insure, and I think the tyres are a more common profile, because I seem to be paying less for tyres for the Mondeo than for the Octavia.

To summarise, I've had very few regrets over the switch. The Octavia is a fun car, but nowhere near as capable as the Mondeo.

The Octavia is generally highly rated for build quality.

Have you owned one? Having lived with with one for three years, I can tell you that it's certainly not up to Ford standards, although it's better than a lot of stuff. It's a case of "it's better than I thought it was going to be"

I'm not saying the Octavia is badly built - most of the parts have VW and Audi stamped on them - but the Mondeo is better.

Nope haven't owned one but the general consensus is that Octavia build quality is of a high standard.
Personally i think only in Audis can you see quality better than the others. The rest are much of a muchness, whether it's a Mondeo, Vectra, 407, Octavia etc

A Mondeo is a MUCH nicer place to be than any Vectra.

On my brand new Octavia, an air vent dropped off a day or two after delivery. Seats started to fray after 6 months. Suspension spring broke within 2 years. Exhaust bracket dropped off within 3 years.

Now I'm not saying nothing has gone wrong with the Mondeo, but everything that has was less serious, and it's older than when I had the Octavia.

Don't get me wrong, the Skoda's not a Citroen or a Fiat by any means, but when you step from a Mk1 Octavia into a Mk3 Mondeo, you can see where the extra money went.
