Ford Cougar power steering cooler pipe thingy
Discussion
The one under the bumper on my partners car has failed (leaking slightly)
Ford rekon £60 part + £60 labour which is sensible, but need 2-3 weeks for import from the USA, which isn't quite so sensible. Driving + topping up is sensible, but not leaking oil on the road (despite the small amounts)
Is it an easy job to divert around the cooler section in the short term (any easy ways, ie, is it male/female ended on flexi hoses so you can just join the ends) or is there any kind of easy seal you can apply to reduce the leak?
Or even a UK based non-Ford supplier for the part?
Any help much appreciated
Thanks
Dave

That I am not sure on unfortunately. Just seems mad that the nearest one is in the good old USA!
Just a pain to get to to have a look as it's the kinda thing I could divert around.
Will maybe have a look this weekend and see if it's the high-pressure or low-pressure side, as I might be able to just wrap it to slow the leak for a while at least. Just makes a mess on the drive and on the road, and under the car

Better late than never.
Did you manage to get this sorted?
I had exactly the same problem on my Cougar about 3 years ago, it turned out to be a poor quality brazed joint. I took the cooler off, cleaned it inside and out and used 'liquid metal' on the leaking joint then spray painted the whole thing.

Had the new bit fitted yesterday, was about £120 all in.
A job I'd prefer to not have done after seeing how much power steering fluid has been spread around under the car by the air flowing around!
Front arches and underside of the engine should be nicely protected from corrosion now
No more leaks now... a few little niggles like this aside, touch wood, it's been a damn reliable and tough car! Can't really fault them at all!
